After you have your drawing for the Manga Girl Full Body, follow the step-by-step drawings below to add the school uniform also called a “Seifuku”. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you’ll know exactly what to draw next. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. For every step, sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start by drawing a small bow below the neck, directly between the manga girl’s collar bone and the U-shaped collar. The bow is made up of a tiny oval-like shape in the middle with two bigger triangular shapes on the sides. The triangular shape on the right should be smaller because of the perspective. Curve the triangular sides and corners. At the bottom, add a couple of short, rectangular shapes for the bow’s ribbons.
Step 2: Above the bow, draw a series of curved lines around the manga girl’s neck for the shirt’s collar. The lines in the middle should be similar to the letter V. Don’t overlap the shape of the bow as the collar is behind it.
Step 3: On the sides of the bow, draw a couple of long, sloping lines for the lapels on the coat. Use the straps of the girl’s top as guides to place the lapels. The middle part of the lapels should angle inward toward the bow to create two pointy shapes on either side. The bottom of the lapels should end on the bottom edge of the girl’s top. The shape on the left should be thinner than the shape on the right.
Step 4: Follow the path of the girl’s arm on the left to draw the coat’s first sleeve. Keep the edge of the sleeve close to the sides of the arm. Make the section on the shoulder wide for the coat’s pad. Draw a sloping line from the shoulder downward for a seam. Keep the width of the sleeve consistent, even at the bottom where the wrist narrows. Add a line near the bottom of the sleeve for the cuff.
Step 5: Use the shape of the torso as a guide to draw the left side of the girl’s coat. Follow the outer edge of the torso and place the line for the coat a bit farther to the left. Place the inner edge of the coat near the belly button. The lower part of the coat should curve to the left along the side of the hip. Near the bottom of the shape, draw a small rectangle for the coat’s pocket. Don’t overlap the shape of the arm as you draw this side of the coat.
Step 6: Draw the other side of the girl’s coat the same way. Follow the path of the torso and draw the line for the outer edge of the coat a it farther to the right. Curve the lower part of the coat to the right and near the bottom, draw a small rectangle for the pocket.
Step 7: Add a few extra details throughout the girl’s uniform. Below the bow, draw two vertical lines for the shirt’s seam. In between those lines, draw two small circles for buttons. Draw three more small circles along the middle edge of the coat for more buttons. On the outer edge of the cuff, draw two more small circles for even more buttons. Add a line below the cuff for a bit of the shirt’s sleeve.
Step 9: Use the manga girl’s arm on the right as a guide to draw the coat’s other sleeve. Follow the edge of the arm to draw the shape of the sleeve. Make the shoulder area a bit wider for the pad and add a sloping line inside for a seam. Keep the sleeve wide even at the wrist. Near the bottom, draw a couple of lines for the cuff of the coat and shirt. A big part of this sleeve is hidden behind the body, so only draw the visible portion.
Step 10: Below the girl’s knee on the left, draw three short, curved, horizontal lines for the top edge of the sock and for a stripe on the sock. At the bottom, draw a curved shape around the foot for the shoe. Draw a thin curved shape across the top of the foot for a strap on the shoe. On the top part of the foot, draw a small rectangular shape for the shoe’s opening. Below the feet, draw a couple of short, curved lines for the shoe’s sole and heel.
Step 11: Draw the sock and shoes on the girl’s other leg the same way. Draw three curved lines at the top for the sock and stripe. Draw a curved shape around the foot for the basic shoe. At the top of the foot, draw a curved shape for the shoe’s strap and a small, rectangular shape for the shoe’s opening. Below the foot, draw a couple of lines for the shoe’s sole and heel.
Step 12: Using a pen or marker, go over the final lines to make your manga girl in a school uniform drawing permanent. Ink slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. Don’t ink the sections of the body that are behind the clothes. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your manga girl drawing! This drawing was colored digitally but you can achieve the same result using color pencils, markers or crayons! Using light brown, color a few streaks across the middle area of the hair for highlights. Use regular brown for the rest of the hair but don’t overlap the highlights. Use dark brown along the top and bottom of the hair. Color lightly at first and slowly blend the colors together. For an easier drawing, just color the entire hair a single brown color with no highlights. You can also use any other color you want. Manga characters are always colorful so use, green, yellow, purple or any other color you want for the hair. Use blue for the eyes.
Use peach for the skin. Use a bit of light brown throughout the skin for some shadows. Add a bit of pink to the cheeks for blush. Color the coat dark blue or navy blue. Use yellow-orange for the buttons on the coat. Use red and orange to color the bow for a stripy pattern. Add a bit of light gray to the white shirt for shadows. Color the skirt and the stripes on the socks gray. Use black for the socks and shoes. Make the tips of the shoes a bit light for shine. Use light gray for the bottom part of the fronts of the shoes. You can also color the uniform differently if you’d like. Use dark red or dark green for the coat or add a plaid pattern to the skirt!
That’s it! Keep practicing until you get the uniform right. Draw it again and again and eventually you’ll get better!
