After you have your drawing for the Manga Girl Full Body (Side View), follow the step-by-step drawings below to add the school uniform also called a “Seifuku”. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you’ll know exactly what to draw next. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. For every step, sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start by drawing the girl’s coat sleeve around the shape of the arm. Make the edges of the sleeve straight all the way to the bottom. Keep the edges of the sleeve close to the shape of the arm so that it’s not too baggy. At the bottom, draw a small, rectangular shape for the sleeve’s cuff. Add a couple of curved lines at the top for the creases on the shoulder.
Step 2: To the right of the girl’s shoulder, draw the bow. The bow is also in side view, so only draw the visible part. The left side of the bow is similar to a triangle. The middle is a small square and the right should barely be visible as an angled line. The bottom ribbons should be made up of two thin, rectangular shapes.
Step 3: Between the manga girl’s shoulder and neck, draw two long sloping lines as the lapel on the coat. Continue to draw the line down the front of the chest but don’t overlap the shape of the bow. The lapel should be angled to the left of the bow. The lapel should end at a pointy tip below the bow and in front of the chest.
Step 4: Use the shape of the girl’s torso as a guide to draw the coat. Follow the outer edges of the torso and place the lines for the coat a bit farther out. The bottom of the coat should be wider and it should cover the lower part of the torso. Don’t overlap the shape of the arm as you draw the coat at the bottom.
Step 5: Below the coat, draw the manga girl’s uniform skirt. The sides of the skirt are made up of long lines that slope outward. The middle of the skirt is made up of more vertical lines for the skirt’s pleats. Notice how the bottom edge of the skirt angles along the pleats to show the cloth overlapping itself. You can make the length of the skirt as long or as short as you’d like.
Step 6: Add the details on the top part of the girl’s uniform. At the top, draw a sloping line for the part of the shirt that is visible above the coat’s pleat. On the right side of the coat, draw three small ovals for the front buttons. To the left of the bottom button, draw a small square-like line for the coat’s pocket. Inside the cuff, draw two small circles for more buttons. Below the cuff, draw a short, curved line for the shirt cuff that’s coming out a bit.
Step 7: Below the girl’s knee, draw three short, curved, horizontal lines for the top edge of the sock and for a stripe on the sock. On top of the foot, draw a thin, curved rectangular shape for the shoe’s clasp. Draw the shape of the shoe around the foot. The front of the foot should be round around the toes. The top opening of the shoe should be way. On the bottom, left, draw a thin, rectangular shape for the shoe’s heel. To the left draw a longer rectangular shape for the rest of the shoe’s sole.
Step 8: Using a pen or marker, go over the final lines to make your manga girl in a school uniform drawing permanent. Ink slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. Don’t ink the sections of the body that are behind the clothes. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your manga girl drawing! This drawing was colored digitally but you can achieve the same result using color pencils, markers or crayons! Using light brown, color a few streaks across the middle area of the hair for highlights. Use regular brown for the rest of the hair but don’t overlap the highlights. Use dark brown along the top and bottom of the hair. Color lightly at first and slowly blend the colors together. For an easier drawing, just color the entire hair a single brown color with no highlights. You can also use any other color you want. Manga characters are always colorful so use, green, yellow, purple or any other color you want for the hair. Use blue for the eyes.
Use peach for the skin. Use a bit of light brown throughout the skin for some shadows. Add a bit of pink to the cheeks for blush. Color the coat dark blue or navy blue. Use yellow-orange for the buttons on the coat. Use red and orange to color the bow for a stripy pattern. Color the skirt and the stripes on the socks gray. Use black for the socks and shoes. Make the tip of the shoe a bit lighter for shine. Use light gray for the bottom part of the shoe. You can also color the uniform differently if you’d like. Use dark red or dark green for the coat or add a plaid pattern to the skirt!
That’s it! Keep practicing until you get the uniform right. Draw it again and again and eventually you’ll get better!
