After you have your drawing for the Manga Boy Full Body (Side View), follow the step-by-step drawings below to add the school uniform also called a “Seifuku”. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you’ll know exactly what to draw next. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. For every step, sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start by drawing the boy’s coat sleeve around the shape of the arm. Make the edges of the sleeve straight all the way to the bottom. Keep the edges of the sleeve close to the shape of the arm so that it’s not too baggy. At the bottom, draw a small, rectangular shape for the sleeve’s cuff. Add a couple of curved lines at the top for the creases on the shoulder pad.
Step 2: Draw a thin long shape that starts at the neck and then curves in front of the chest for the lapel on the manga boy’s coat. Near the middle of the shape draw a small angled notch. The bottom of the shape should be thin and pointy and it should end right below the chest.
Step 3: At the top, across the boy’s neck, draw another thin shape for the visible part of the shirt’s collar. On the left side, draw a small diamond-like shape for the tie’s knot. Below that, draw a longer line for the rest of the tie. The tie should end at the lapel.
Step 4: Use the shape of the boy’s torso as a guide to draw the coat. Follow the outer edges of the torso and place the lines for the coat a bit farther out. The bottom of the coat should be wider and it should cover the lower part of the torso. Don’t overlap the shape of the arm as you draw the coat at the bottom. The length of the coat should be along the hand. Draw a line along the bottom edge of the coat on the right side for the split on the cloth.
Step 5: Draw a long, vertical line along the left side of the torso for the other side of the boy’s coat. In the thin space created between the line on the left, draw two tiny ovals for the buttons in front of the coat. To the left of the arm, draw a small square-like line for the visible part of the coat’s pocket. Inside the cuff, draw two small circles for more buttons. Below the cuff, draw a short, curved line for the shirt cuff that’s coming out a bit.
Step 6: Draw the shape of the pants as long vertical lines along the edges of the boy’s leg. Curve the line inward a bit along the knee to create creases. Don’t make the pants too skinny at the bottom. Draw the edges farther away from the leg at the bottom so that the pants have a straight cut.
Step 7: Draw the shape of the shoe around the foot. The front of the shoe should be round around the toes. At the top, draw two very short lines for laces. To the left of the laces, draw a line that curves forward and another line that curves down for the shoe’s design. On the bottom, left, draw a thin, rectangular shape for the shoe’s heel. To the right draw a longer renctangular shape for the rest of the shoe’s sole.
Step 8: Using a pen or marker, go over the final lines to make your manga boy in a school uniform drawing permanent. Ink slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. Don’t ink the sections of the body that are behind the clothes. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your manga boy drawing! This drawing was colored digitally but you can achieve the same result using color pencils, markers or crayons! Using light brown, color a few streaks across the middle area of the hair for highlights. Use regular brown for the rest of the hair but don’t overlap the highlights. Use dark brown along the top and bottom of the hair. Color lightly at first and slowly blend the colors together. For an easier drawing, just color the entire hair a single brown color with no highlights. You can also use any other color you want. Manga characters are always colorful so use, green, yellow, purple or any other color you want for the hair. Use blue for the eyes.
Use peach for the skin. Use a bit of light brown throughout the skin for some shadows. Color the coat dark blue or navy blue. Use yellow-orange for the buttons on the coat. Use red and orange to color the tie for a stripy pattern. Color the pants gray and the shoe brown. Use dark gray for the bottom part of the shoe. You can also color the uniform differently if you’d like. Use dark red or dark green for the coat and any other color for the pants!
That’s it! Keep practicing until you get the uniform right. Draw it again and again and eventually you’ll get better!
